Hypnobirthing with Anna Brook
Welcome to my page and congratulations on your pregnancy. As a little person grows within us and we prepare for changes to our own lives when they arrive, it can be reassuring to know that there are approaches that have been beneficial to others in a similar stage of their lives.
Hypnobirthing offers you an empowering preparation for the birth of your child(ren). I gravitated towards it in 2010 when I was thinking about having my own child, and I have seen its practices, philosophies and the knowledge of birth it includes to be extremely valuable to many women and their birth companions (please see testimonials below). It was also invaluable in my own birthing.
Essentially it helps us to be accepting of any concerns we may have and then offers us a toolkit to use in the lead up to birth and on the day. This includes breathing practices, deep relaxations, visualisations, self hypnosis, affirmations, meditation, science of how the uterus works, the hormones of birth and practical exercises with our partner (e.g. massage and suggestions of ways they can support you on the day).
The benefits it offers are relevant to a wide variety of births from planned C sections in hospital to water births at home.
Using self hypnosis helps us to access our deepest beliefs about birth (these can include the learnings that we have taken on from others – family, friends, the media etc) and offers the tools to create or further develop a positive attitude towards our birth.
The success of humans as a species is a testament to how well women’s bodies are attuned to our babies and able to birth them. However sometimes our rational, thinking mind can get in the way of our instinctual, ancient part of the brain that knows exactly what to do.
When we practice calming the mind through mindfulness and relaxation techniques, entering these states has powerful physiological effects including giving the muscles of the uterus more space (less tension) to birth our babies, and helps to bring about the hormones that will assist our birthing. These hormones help the body birth more easily and potentially in a greater sense of calm. From this grounded state, we can have the confidence and resilience to be open to whatever turn our birthing takes.
The intention by the end of the day is that you feel you have a good grounding in the process of birth, feel aligned with your partner and on the same page about your birthing, feel inspired to practice some of the relaxation/meditation techniques in the lead up and feel supported as you move towards your birthing.
I have been passionate about teaching hypnobirthing since 2014, when I trained in the Mongan Method. Looking to further my training, I came across Mindful Mamma and instantly felt it was the right approach for me due to its combination of hypnosis and mindfulness. This compliments my background as a Yoga/Pregnancy Yoga/Meditation Teacher (since 2013). A key aspect that I like to focus on in my classes is deep relaxation. By entering these states deeply myself over the last 15 years I aim to convey the transformative effects of allowing the body to move into deep rest.
I regularly teach about Hypnobirthing on Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Trainings (with Sally Parkes Yoga) alongside offering private sessions and classes.
The Mindful Mamma workshop offers a very effective framework or toolkit as you approach your birthing, and the benefit of a 1 day course is that the techniques are easy to remember and accessible. I would be honoured to share these learnings with you as this special time.
“We wanted to thank you so much for all your help with Hypnobirthing. We had such an amazing experience in our birth and completely believe Hypnobirthing was the reason. We had the natural birth we had hoped for, 15 hours in total. Mostly spent in the birthing pool, using gas and air in the last 2 hours”.
“Just to let you know, our baby girl ****** was born two weeks ago at home. She was healthy and very relaxed throughout the birth, honestly, I couldn’t have got through it without my meditation which I had on repeat the whole time. It went very well. Hope to see you again and thank you so much for your guidance, it made all the difference”.
“My husband Adam and I have been doing the Hypnobirthing course with Anna and so far this has really served to bring us closer in the lead up to the birth. Anna is fantastic at explaining ideas and methods in an understandable and approachable way for both of us”.
“Thanks again Anna, you really helped make our birthing experience special and guided us through with breathing techniques. ***** was brilliant and the perfect birthing partner”.
