Why Mindful Hypnobirthing classes can help you prepare for birth.
This is the official class that accompanies the best selling book Mindful Hypnobirthing.
Mindful Hypnobirthing is different from any other hypnobirthing class? We are the first class in the UK to combine mindfulness and hypnosis in a very unique and powerful format. Sophie Fletcher and Mia Scotland built this course afresh, and as clinicians they were in a position to create something totally new and practical based on sound psychological principles.
We’ve drawn on aspects of powerful conditioning, as well as the most up to date research on the expectation of pain, belief and experience. Our client’s focus is not on calm, quiet waterbirths (what if you don’t want to get in the pool on the day?) but on a positive experience.
You will be equipped with very simple and adaptable tools. Whether you have a homebirth or you have a gentle caesarean our practitioners will support you and give you what you need to make it the best possible experience it can be.
People often say to me, “this is so much more than just hypnobirthing. It should be called something else.”. But I can’t call it anything else, because it IS hypnosis for birth. This class has hypnosis interwoven all the way through it – if anything some other hypnobirthing classes I see aren’t a representation of what hypnosis is! The truth is that a lot of hypnobirthing classes have diluted hypnosis and toned the hypnosis down, even calling it mindfuness when it’s not, because of cultural pre-conceptions about it. I like to blow these out of the water and show people that hypnosis tools are phenomonal and really really simple! The hypnosis element of the class is completely up to date, active, engaging, not just passive and listening. Hypnosis evidence is evolving so quickly and it’s POWERFUl. 15 years ago I was completely new to using it, and it blew me away. Everybody should have access to that experience.

If you ask any women from the age of 20-100 about the day their children were born they will remember. You will remember your baby’s birth too, so isn’t it important that you have a good experience, that you feel in control and most of all prepared, not just physically but also emotionally?
Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in your life, however it’s common to feel nervous or apprehensive about the birth. Having a great birth can come down to state of mind.
Mindful Hypnobirthing: Leaders in the field
This class was founded in 2008. It’s based on evidence around attitudes, behaviour, and beliefs. Mindful hypnobirthing classes explore why there is a difference in women and how they birth,
We explore:
- the birthing body’s experience and perception of pain and how to change your relationship to the physical expeirence of birth
- why any apprehension and fear you have can make a difference to your birth
- how to build a compassionate and supportive relationship with your midwife on the day
- why your body during birth is remarkably designed to birth your baby, setting patterns that can affect you and your baby for the rest of your life.
- ways to adapt the techniques if your birth deviates from your plan
We show you how to do this with:
- Hypnosis techniques
- Mindfulness tools
- Relaxation techniques
- And some cognitive behavioural tools for change
With mindful hypnobirthing classes you’ll learn about how to take charge of your internal and external environment, wherever you chose to give birth, however you choose. We don’t advocate which way, we teach you to choose your way, with confidence. We teach you if you are having home birth, if you are having hospital births, if you are having normal drug free births or if you are having a caesarean.
I love this, it’s teaches you what’s happening, why it’s happening and what to do about it. I hate “going with the flow” but this class gives us a secure framework within which there is room for flexibility”.
In our mindful hypnobirthing classes you’ll learn:
- Why some women have better experiences than others
- How to be in control and let go of any fears you may have
- Why environment matters and what to do about it
- Your birthing partner will be shown how to be a help not a hindrance
- How to write a birth plan that can make a difference to your psychology
- Why communication matters and how mindset helps
- Hypnobirthing, relaxation and mindfulness techniques
- To feel excited and look forward to the birth of your baby!
The support doesn’t stop there after the day you’ll get:
- Ongoing support from a practitioner who is experienced in teaching hypnosis for birth if you need it
- Access to a private facebook support group that is moderated by Sophie Fletcher, author of Mindful Hypnobirthing
- Handouts, mp3s and other supporting materials

Benefits for the birth partner of doing a Mindful Hypnobirthing workshop

It can be daunting to prepare for the birth as a partner. However many classes you take you may still not know what to expect. Or perhaps you think you do based on what’s on TV of in films, or what you’ve heard from friends.
The truth is even a partners preconceptions of birth can influence how a woman births, it can change the type of support and also the direction a birth takes. For a birth partner understanding what your own fears and worries are, and why they can impact your partners labour, and learning what you can do about it, is some of the best preparation you can do.
This mindful hypnobirthing class really benefits the birth partner, whether it’s your mother, a friend, partner, your husband or your wife. We strongly believe that when the birthing partner feels comfortable, knows what to expect and how they can help during the birth it makes and immense difference to the mother and baby.
Time and time again we are told by couples after our mindful hypnobirthing class how valuable it has been for them and that is really has benefitted them both. Most will admit to being skeptics about hypnobirthing before coming on board, but change their view completely after the class when they realise the benefits are for them both not just the mother. We consistently get feedback saying that they are using the mindful hypnobirthing techniques they have learned not just in preparation for the birth but in everyday life and that they are sleeping better, or just generally more relaxed.
Importantly it gives the birthing partner a quiet confidence that is picked up on by the mother who feels supported and is able to let go and really go within and focus on the birth.
This is what the birth partners say about our Mindful Hypnobirthing class.
Benefits for Baby: It’s not just about the birth but preparation too.
Mindful Hypnobirthing benefits for baby
Hypnobirthing benefits for baby are more than just – in the weeks before birth as well, as baby’s brain is developing. We have known for nearly 80 years through research that stress can affect a baby in the womb and have an impact on their long term development, more and more research in the last few years especially, shows that a baby is connected with a mother’s emotional state and that stress and anxiety experienced in the womb can have a long term impact on the baby’s brain development.
At Mindful Mamma we think it’s important that you have access to this information and that you are given the opportunity to understand how important it is to take time out to relax and let go of the days stresses and strains. You can learn quickly about hypnobirthing benefits for baby. It’s not about feeling guilty that you stayed late at work and got stressed about a project you had a deadline for, but about offering you the opportunity to create spaces within your life during pregnancy to quickly de-stress and connect to your baby in a positive way. Look at it as a way of keeping things at an equilibrium. The hypnobirthing benefit for baby is that your baby feels what you feel and can also enjoy the time out to relax and let go.
The mindful hypnobirthing techniques you learn on our class can be used in the workplace and in everyday life to relax and calm you, not just at the birth.
What baby hears and is connected to in the womb can trigger different reactions outside the womb, after they are born. Many mums who have been on our mindful hypnobirthing class comment that the CD music that they relaxed to during the pregnancy, relaxes and settles their baby after they have been born; simply because baby associates the music with being calm.
We are also told time and time again how settled and how calm their babies are.
Hypnobirthing Benefits to baby are
- You know how to relax quickly and deeply during pregnancy
- Mindfulness and hypnobirthing exercises that connect mum, dad and baby in a loving way
- When mum is using hypnobirthing babies are calmer and more settled
- Feeling calmer after birth, sleeping and feeding better too
- A brilliant start to life
Here’s a link to a fascinating video showing how a baby hears in the womb and how they responds to those sounds and touch.
When I put my Mindful Hypnobirthing music on, baby recognises it from me listening to it in pregnancy. I can see that it immediately soothes them!”
Your Practitioner
Our Mindful Hypnobirthing classes are taught by a small and experienced group of practitioners, who are either midwives, psychologists, hypnotherapists, NCT antenatal teachers or Hypnobirthing Mums. They have all been trained personally by Sophie Fletcher, author of Mindful Hypnobirthing.
Your Mindful Hypnobirthing Class will be Small
We keep our classes small, so you will rarely find that a class has over 5 couples. This helps us to hold a nurturing space where you can relax and feel comfortable. Part of hypnobirthing is being able to ask questions freely and to process any thoughts you have, and it’s much easier to do that in smaller group.
You can do a group or a private class in your own home.
Prices start at just £140 in a group for a couple and £230 for a private class, depending on where you live and the experience of your practitioner.
